May 1 marks the start of Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) month. That means a time to reflect on some key figures in the community. It’s a big initiative for officials at the National Museum of Nuclear Science & History. “People can see, walk through, and just read a little bit about people that they might not have known,” Bernadette Robin, director of communications at the museum, said.Coming Together: Project CommUNITYSeveral banners can now be found inside the Albuquerque-based facility. It’s part of a new and temporary exhibit that explores and recognizes the contributions, scientific achievements, and impact of Asian American and Pacific Islander scientists and engineers. “They do represent the many different disciplines in the STEM fields,” Robin said.Each display features scientists, engineers, astronauts, and botanist and their incredible work.”Kalpana Chawla was one of the first women of Indian descent to be in space,” Robin said.
