The US Air Force has announced the selection of drone maker General Atomics and defense startup Anduril to build and test the first batch of drone wingmen for the next part of the service’s Collaborative Combat Aircraft (CCA) program.
The selection was made from a pool of five competitors. The vendors out of the race are – Boeing, Lockheed Martin, and Northrop Grumman.
The Air Force also said that the companies not selected for the CCA program would still be a part of the “broader industry partner vendor pool”, which consists of more than 20 companies, and can compete for future efforts.
The five contractors were picked in the program’s first phase, which focused on design.
