Annual law enforcement torch run brings out hundreds to Escambia County Sheriffs Office for a good cause [Video]

PENSACOLA, Fl. (WALA) – The wind was strong, but the will of the runners Monday morning was stronger.

Hundreds gathered at the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office for the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run benefitting the Florida Special Olympics.

Those participating included members of the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office, Pensacola Police Department, special agents from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

And of course, the athletes themselves.

“Good. I feel good about it.”

“I’m thankful to be here so we can go have fun.”

“I just want to thank everyone and the law enforcement to come out and help us run. It’s a big thank you and a blessing to have them. If we don’t have them, we don’t have a torch run. So, thank you.”

This is just the Escambia County leg. The torch will travel over 1,500 miles, through Florida’s 67 counties to the opening ceremonies of the summer games. …
