EUREKA (25News Now) – The Woodford County Board is the latest government body in the area deciding not to take action on the politically charged issue of immigration.
Tuesday night, the board tabled a resolution that would have declared Woodford a non-sanctuary county, unwilling to spend tax money to care for undocumented migrants other than to provide emergency services should an influx of asylum seekers arrive.
County government should prioritize government aid to legal residents who are in need of assistance, supporters of the resolution say.
All 15 county board members are Republican. They heard from 16 speakers during the public comment period, with the vast majority opposed to the resolution, finding issues with its language.
