Fans with the new MLB Go-Ahead Entry can now bypass the long lines and breeze into the ballpark without even showing a ticket.
HOUSTON — At the Houston Astros home opener on Thursday, there will be a new, faster way for fans to get through the gates of Minute Maid Park.
Major League Baseball’s new Go-Ahead Entry uses facial recognition technology to identify fans with tickets. It allows them to bypass the long lines and breeze into the ballpark without stopping to have their ticket scanned.
Here’s how it works.
- Set up an account on the MLB Ballpark app if you don’t already have one.
- Snap a selfie with the app
- That image is converted into a unique alphanumeric code, and then the image itself is deleted. This code, also known as a token, is associated with the respective fan’s account.
- Tickets will be uploaded to the app
