ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – The City of Atlanta is one step closer to having animal control services by Fulton County reinstated.
The Atlanta City Council approved a resolution Monday that authorizes Mayor Andre Dickens “to execute an intergovernmental agreement” with the Fulton County government to provide animal control services within the city for five years, the council said in a statement Monday night.
The resolution was “sent to the mayor’s office post-haste.”
After months of disagreements between Fulton County officials and the City of Atlanta, Fulton County commissioners voted against reinstating animal services within the city during a contentious meeting last week.

The commissioners who voted against reinstating animal control services within Atlanta stressed that operating animal service responsibilities without a signed intergovernmental agreement with the city could open the county up to potential liability and legal ramifications.
