CINCINNATI (WXIX/Gray News) – A 6-month-old girl has been at a Cincinnati hospital since she was 7 days old after doctors discovered her heart was not pumping blood properly, causing her to need a new one.
Caitlin Gangi Rost says one week after her daughter, Francesca, was born in October, she noticed the baby was not nursing like she had been. She took Francesca to the pediatrician, and she was rushed to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, WXIX reports.
“She had changed, and if it wasn’t for me understanding and knowing that, she wouldn’t be here right now,” Rost said. “We got her there in the nick of time.”
At the hospital, it was discovered that Francesca’s heart was overworked.
“Her two chambers were in heart block, so they weren’t pumping in sync with each other. Therefore, her heart was working too hard to profuse the organs in her body,” Rost said.
