Bakersfield Condors lose longtime secret weapon: Dancin Granny, age 90 [Video]

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — It sometimes seems like there’s not enough joy in the world – simple, innocent joy – what, with war, hardball politics and debates over the existence of objective truth. Well, one truth remains undeniable — sometimes you just have to dance.

Which brings us to one of the chief proponents of that philosophy: Phyllis Hansen, a sweet, gentle lady who loved her grandkids and the girls in her bunco club — that is, until the horn sounded, the Condors took the ice and she exposed her not-so-secret identity: Dancin’ Granny.

Phyllis Hansen was as much a part of Bakersfield Condors hockey games as the puck drop, as much a part of the fan experience as a good check into the boards, but now she’s gone. Phyllis died Monday at a local hospital at age 90, her family by her side.
