The train was transporting non-odorous propane and gasoline, and a half-dozen rail cars caught fire and burned for hours after the derailment, New Mexico State Police Lt. Phil Vargas said.

The fire broke out shortly after 2 p.m. on Halifax Street, just northwest of Gilbert and Brown roads. Mesa Fire Captain Chris Tiller says the initial fire is believed to have started in an RV or backyard shed before it spread to a house and then a second home.

According to court records, one of the suspects, Lisa Karlovsky, was previously the Republican Jewish Coalition Director. A neighbor told Arizona’s Family that her husband, Matthew Karlovsky, is a doctor. Phoenix police believe Bryan Long and the Karlovskys vandalized 16 cars, with damage costing more than $45,000.
