The Auditorium Plaza Garage at Barney Allis Plaza is closing down for good as the city prepares to tear it down next month.Originally built in 1954 and last renovated in 1984, this Kansas City garage has reached the end of its life. The building, located between 12th and 13th Streets and Central and Wyandotte Streets, was initially built to accommodate parking at the Kansas City Convention Center.In just a few weeks, it will be completely demolished. What to do with this parking garage has been debated for years. The plaza and its underground parking garage have been in disrepair for a long time.The lower levels were closed due to crumbling concrete. The upper parking levels are also rarely used, and the entire garage is suffering from erosion and outdated electrical infrastructure.
