GLASGOW, Ky. (WBKO) – Just this year, Barren County has 200 cases of child abuse, according to Barren and Metcalfe County Family Judge Mica Pence.
“Child abuse awareness is all of us knowing that it exists in our communities more than [we] know,” she said.
Today, citizens gathered at the courthouse all wearing blue, the color that signifies support for child abuse prevention, to hear April be officially recognized in Barren County as “National Child Prevention Awareness Month.”
“To see so many people respond to this proclamation today, here at 10:30 in the middle of a weekday morning, it was a great crowd, and we’re proud of our community and we want to continue to be proud of a community we have to raise children in,” said Glasgow Mayor Henry Royce.
Royce and Barren County Judge Executive Jamie Byrd read and signed the proclamation together.
