Bill Northey, former Iowa Secretary of Agriculture, dies at age 64 [Video]

DES MOINES, IOWA  —  Bill Northey, who served as Iowa’s Secretary of Agriculture for eleven years before joining the Trump administration, has died at the age of 64.  The news of Northey’s passing was confirmed by his colleagues of the Agribusiness Association of Iowa.  Northey was first elected Secretary of Agriculture in 2006.  He won reelection in 2010 and 2014 but left office in 2017 to join the USDA in Washington, DC. 

The Agribusiness Association of Iowa released the following statement on Monday:

The state of Iowa, and all of agriculture, has lost a great leader who has left his mark on future generations and will be greatly missed.

Bill was a tireless advocate for agriculture and a beloved leader for the entire AAI staff and organization. As we mourn the loss of our close colleague, we also extend our prayers for his family in this difficult time.
