‘Birthday boxes’ delivered to Scottsdale school [Video]

SCOTTSDALE, AZ (AZFamily) — More than 400 students at Pima Elementary School in Scottsdale celebrated their birthdays regardless of what day it fell on.

“I think it’s going to be a little frosting on the cake, so to speak, for the kids to take these home and celebrate with their families,” said Pima Elementary School principal Christopher Hodo.

Two cars full of these so-called “birthday boxes” were packed with cake mix, frosting, candles, and much more.

Sharon Sager with the nonprofit Labor of Love came up with the idea after learning that many low-income families need birthday supplies for their kids.

“I had researched some food banks and asked what are items that they needed and they said that the most requested item was cake mix and frosting so that they can make their children’s birthday cake, and I just really was drawn to that,” Sager said.
