Blackwater River Endangered by Corridor H Construction [Video]

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va (WDTV) – An environmental group has named the Blackwater River on a list of 2024 endangered waters.

The list was published by American Rivers this week.

They say that the river is threated by the plans for Corridor-H, that would cross all of the river’s headwater streams for major construction activity.

The group says that the rare animal and plant species would likely struggle to escape the habitat destruction that comes with highway construction.

They add that the currently preferred route for Corridor-H would go along a former strip mine that is filled with acid mine drainage, which could easily spill pollutants into the river.

Corridor-H has been a contentious project since its inception, with groups calling for a route that goes north and would protect the river, instead of its currently proposed route.
