BROOKINGS, Ore. — On Monday, the Brookings City Council wrote a letter of opposition to the Bureau of Energy Management about the Offshore Wind Energy Project. That project was finalized on Feb. 13, 2024.

“It’s feeling like they’re checking the boxes on a list of things they need to do, but the project itself has already decided it will go forward,” said Isaac Hodges, mayor of Brookings. “And that’s frustrating.”

Hodges said BOEM has not created a dialogue with the city or other organizations and tribes that will be impacted. The lack of dialogue makes Hodges feel that the input he’s invested time into giving doesn’t matter to BOEM and that the federal agency has decided to move forward with the project no matter citizen’s concerns.
