TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) – The Tucson Police Chief, Chad Kasmar, will spend some time this week trying to convince Rio Nuevo that adding cameras and license plate readers downtown is a good investment.
Downtown has changed dramatically in the past few years by adding thousands of new rental units and thousands of new residents.
With that comes issues such as noise, crime and street racing.
It’s not unusual that the police department would want to use some of the latest technology to fight crime.
“We had a study session about a month and a half ago,” said Ward 6 City Council member Steve Kozachik, whose ward includes downtown.“TPD brought forward a list of eight or ten different items, technology items, they need to enhance their ability to fight crime.”
