CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – Thanks to 2024′s record-breaking warm temperatures, the city of Cedar Rapids has been able to get a month’s head start on road projects.
“It’s been totally different,” Brian Mcleod, Cedar Rapids street superintendent, said. “We’ve been able to continue with our projects without any hiccups.”
Because of the lack of snow, the street department is finishing more projects faster, kicking off things like street sweeping and pothole patching earlier.
The only thing slowing workers is the cold, some work can’t be done at certain temperatures.
“We can work, but there are certain things that we cannot do,” Mcleod said. “We have to wait till those temperatures get above freezing before we start doing any work during the day.”
