CHILTON COUNTY, Ala. (WBRC) – You’re about to have faster and more efficient high-speed internet in Chilton County.

Central Alabama Electric Cooperative told WBRC state funding will allow them to extend their service to customers outside of their current coverage area.

Company leaders say over 6,000 homes and businesses will gain high-speed internet service over the next two years.

CAEC has been working to expand its internet coverage across central Alabama for years and now thanks to grants totaling almost $23 million, they can increase the spread of high-speed internet through fiber projects.

The expansion adds coverage areas in Autauga, Chilton, Coosa and Elmore counties, but a majority will take place in Chilton County, benefiting folks who don’t currently have service.

CAEC leaders say not all areas will be worked on simultaneously – some neighbors will receive service faster than others.
