SYRACUSE, NY — This may come as no surprise, but it turns out most Central New Yorkers like beer.

Some really like beer.

Almost one in three Central New Yorkers (28 percent) identify themselves as “beer snobs,” according to a recent survey by Drive Research, a Syracuse-based market research company. Another 63 percent “enjoy beer but would not consider themselves a braggart,” while eight percent said they drink beer “socially if there are no other options” the results show.

Just 2 percent said they hate beer, according to Drive Research founder George Kuhn.

Unlike many of Drive Research’s surveys, this one was not commissioned by or for a business client. “This one we did on our own, to keep our panel engaged and have some fun,” Kuhn said.

In that spirit, some of the questions led to a better picture of the local beer-drinking scene and others provided light-hearted answers and scenarios.
