Childcare tax credit bill advances in Alabama House committee | News [Video]

Another step forward to provide expanded access to affordable childcare across Alabama.

This week, the House Ways and Means Education Committee advanced a bill that would provide tax credits and grants to childcare providers.

The bill will also provide those credits to companies who have their own childcare or assist with childcare costs for their employees.

One of the main focuses of the bill is small and rural daycares.

“The big ones aren’t going to get it all,” Susan Kennedy with Levitate Legal said. “But the small ones that maybe are just making it on the margins, they will be able to use that capital to hire another person, to improve the quality of their facilities and to offer more childcare slots.”

The bill’s sponsor, House Minority Leader Rep. Anthony Daniels, says another goal of the bill is to get more Alabamians back into the workforce.
