BEAUMONT, Texas — The Beaumont City Council came together tonight to discuss how to hit the brakes on speeding drivers.

The council is considering adding speed radar signs near Sallie Curtis Elementary in an attempt to make the neighborhood safer.

 “My daughter had gotten out and she got close to the road and there was a vehicle coming down at a high rate of speed. They didn’t even slow down. They just blared their horn and kept going,” said Joshua Knowlton, a Peyton Drive resident.

After that close call, enough was enough for Knowlton.

“(It’s) almost as if they were annoyed that there was a child and a woman headed towards the road. So that’s when we decided we had to do something,” said Knowlton.
