Community baby shower provides supplies, resources for expecting mothers in Louisville’s west end | Local News [Video]

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — New and expecting mothers took part in a community baby shower in Louisville’s west end Friday evening.

The nonprofit group, Mamma to Mama, hosted the event as part of Black Maternal Health Week. Baby supplies, health screenings for moms and infant care education were available. 

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports show the maternal mortality rate for black women is more than double that of other races. And Kentucky’s infant mortality rate is higher than the national average.

This event is about helping moms get better care during pregnancy, delivery, and after the baby’s born.

“They have access to programs in the community they can utilize. Insurance companies and resources through the health department, so it’s really about creating access,” Kazia Bryant, Mamma to Mama Executive Director, said.

Many mothers that attended were really glad to have the support.
