ATLANTA — Invest Atlanta is seeking qualified firms to partner with it to develop and operate a municipal grocery store.
According to its website, it’s the city’s official economic development authority, and its purpose is to strengthen Atlanta’s economy and global competitiveness.
On Tuesday, Mayor Andre Dickens took to social media to make a plea for qualified contractors to help develop the grocery store. He said that despite offering incentives to chains, there are still no businesses that are helping this idea come to fruition.
“I am serious about making sure we eliminate food deserts in our city,” Dickens said on Instagram. “We’ve reached out to the grocery chains and even offered incentives — no takers. So, we will make it happen for the people directly!”
