CT businesses brace for potential impact from Baltimore bridge collapse [Video]

(WFSB) – The Francis Scott Key Bridge collapsed on a major shipping area that distributes goods up and down the east coast, including to Connecticut.

Economists and local business owners said it’s too early to know what exact impact the collapse would have.

The Connecticut Restaurant Association said some of the challenges may be similar to what businesses dealt with during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Many people wondered if an economic crisis would be next.

Mohammad Elahee, an international business professor at Quinnipiac University, said Baltimore is one of the busiest ports in the country.

“Baltimore is the ninth largest port in the USA both in terms of damage and dollar value of the goods handled,” Elahee said.

Business owners said they have been preparing for the fallout.

“Any international products for our restaurants we kind of got to work through that, if there’s going to be shortages or timing or any costs that could be increased,” said Scott …
