BOULDER — Pat Shumur had his first ‘welcome back to college football’ moment last summer.

It was shortly after he was hired as an offensive analyst on Deion Sanders’ staff at Colorado — Shurmur’s first college job since he was the Stanford offensive line coach in 1998.

The longtime NFL coach, who most recently had been the offensive coordinator for the Denver Broncos, was watching film from CU’s spring game a few months prior.

Thoughts like ‘That’s a pretty good player,’ and ‘I like what that guy’s doing here’ rushed into his head as he got back into the swing of things. Then someone had to remind him of something.

“Coach, none of them are here,” Shurmur recalled with a laugh on Thursday.
