PHOENIX (AZFamily) — An Arizona Department of Public Safety trooper as well as crews with the Department of Transportation and the Maricopa County Animal Care and Control helped rescued a dog who ran onto I-17 near downtown Phoenix early Tuesday.
Crews first spotted the dog running alongside the emergency shoulder in the southbound lanes of the freeway near Thomas Road around 7:15 a.m. Moments later, a trooper attempted to wrangle him, but the dog kept running away.
After a few tries, one trooper was able to approach him and keep him safe while animal control officials arrived to help transport him to a shelter.
The dog caused a bit of a traffic backup into downtown Phoenix and those looking to merge onto Interstate 10 but traffic has since returned to normal levels.
