AUGUSTA– The Federal Government has proposed eight areas in the Gulf of Maine to serve as possible sites for commercial offshore wind farms.

“This transition to clean energy and the support of offshore wind is really all about addressing the climate change crisis and we want to do it in a way that is supporting jobs here in the US. Domestic supply chain we want to do it in a way that is thoughtful and deliberate.” says Elizabeth Klein, the Director of the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management.

Klein adds the proposed lease areas for offshore wind developments would cover around a million acres with the potential to power around 5 million homes.
