DES MOINES, Iowa (KCRG) – An insect that kills ash trees is confirmed in all but one of Iowa’s 99 counties.
According to the Iowa Department of Agriculture, the Emerald Ash Borer was confirmed in Palo Alto County last month.
It’s known to kill trees by laying eggs inside the bark.
The bug was first found in Iowa in 2010, and has slowly made its way across the state.
Emmet County, directly north of Palo Alto, is the only county in Iowa in which the Emerald Ash Borer hasn’t been reported.
