NEAR EMMETSBURG, IA (KTIV) – Entomologists recently found the emerald ash borer in Palo Alto County, meaning it’s in almost every county in Iowa. With the insect so widespread, it’s natural to wonder why the story still makes headlines.

But state officials are adamant EAP is worth paying attention to.

Let’s start with this, the state entomologist KTIV spoke with says roughly one out of every five trees in Iowa could be killed by the insect.

Not only is that bad for the looks of the environment, but it can put a real strain on local governments or even members of the general public who want to keep their trees alive.

And, even if you don’t elect for the costly treatment, it’s still going to cost money to have the dead trees removed.
