EPA finishes work with Return to Nature Funeral Home demolition in Colorado [Video]

PENROSE, Colo. (KKTV) – Victims gathered in Penrose Tuesday morning for a ceremony honoring their loved ones.

Less than a week after the emotional ceremony, the EPA announced they were done with the demolition process of the funeral home.

“Your grief has touched the entire community,” a local pastor said to dozens in attendance. “Thousands have probably ached for what you’ve experienced.”

The ceremony was held before the EPA started demolishing the Return to Nature Funeral Home, where nearly 200 bodies were found improperly stored back in October. The owners are facing hundreds of charges in the case and were taken back into custody recently for new federal charges.

“EPA completed removal of the Penrose Funeral Home on Saturday, April 20, 2024,” the EPA posted to its website on Monday. “The building materials and foundation were dis-infected, demolished, and transferred off-site for disposal.
