Eyes on Wilmington: Political party leaders discuss impact of Biden and Trump visits to southeastern North Carolina [Video]

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – President Joe Biden is scheduled to visit Wilmington this Thursday to discuss his “Investing in America” agenda, which includes an emphasis on job creation and rebuilding infrastructure.

Biden’s visit to southeastern North Carolina will be the first from a sitting president since President Donald Trump came to Wilmington in 2020 to declare the city as America’s first World War II Heritage City.

Like Trump’s visit in 2020, Biden’s stop in Wilmington comes just a few months before a presidential election.

While Biden’s visit Thursday will be in his official capacity as president and not a campaign stop, it comes just two weeks after Trump, the presumptive Republican nominee, had to cancel a rally in Wilmington due to bad weather.

Leaders in both major political parties in New Hanover County say both candidates planning trips to Wilmington is a sign of the role the city will play in this year’s election.
