DES MOINES, Iowa (WOWT) – Former Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Bill Northey died Monday at age 64.
Northey was Iowa’s ag secretary from 2007-2018 before serving as Under Secretary for Farm Production and Conservation at the U.S. Department of Agriculture during the Trump Administration, from 2018-2021.
Gov. Reynolds released the following statement Monday afternoon following the news of Northey’s passing:
In addition to the statement, the Governor ordered all flags at public buildings across the state to be flown at half-staff immediately and remain there until sunset on the day of Northey’s interment, which is yet to be determined.
The Governor’s office also encouraged all citizens, businesses, and schools to fly their flags at half-staff as a sign of respect for Northey.
