COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS/Gray News) – A former South Carolina charter school teacher was arrested and charged after allegedly giving drugs to two minors.

The Columbia Police Department said Najla Clayton, 36, is accused of giving marijuana and tobacco to her 16-year-old student at her home on Dinwood Circle.

Clayton is also accused of offering marijuana to her 11-year-old daughter and allowing her to smoke a tobacco product.

Investigators say the events occurred during winter break from Dec. 22, 2023 to Jan. 7, 2024, when Clayton was employed as an educator at Clear Dot Charter School in Columbia.

Officials said Clayton’s children later told a family member about these instances, and law enforcement was notified.

The department says Clayton was charged with two counts of unlawful conduct toward a child and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

She was released from the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center on a $10,000 bond.
