Free meals this summer for summer learning at Tuscaloosa City Schools [Video]

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WBRC) – Free breakfasts and lunches this summer for Tuscaloosa City School students. City school leaders say that a total of 17 schools will offer free breakfasts and lunches, and that’s a mix of elementary, junior high, and high schools.

There is a direct correlation between nutrition and learning. The more nourished the child, the better they learn, according to Tuscaloosa City School Superintendent Dr. Mike Daria.

“We’ve increased our summer learning by 3,000-4,000, and a big part of that summer learning program is making sure our students have meals, both breakfast and lunch. It’s important because we want our students to be in an engaging program where learning takes place,” said Dr. Daria.

The free meals and learning will take place at 17 schools, starting in early June and ending before July 4, five weeks in all.
