Great American Eclipse: City of Springfield to host solar eclipse watch party at Hammons Field [Video]

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) – While many are headed to West Plains or other Missouri cities to create their memory of the eclipse tomorrow, Springfield will create its very own.

“We saw the timing of the eclipse and with not having a game, we just thought it was a fun way to kind of open the doors for the community,” said Dan Reiter, the vice president and general manager of the Springfield Cardinals.

The eclipse watch party will be at Hammons Field, and gates open at 1:30 p.m.

But before heading out, organizers want to remind you about an important safety message.

“Don’t look up at the sun unless you have those approved safe glasses,” said Reiter.

For the event, field organizers partnered with Vision Clinic to provide solar eclipse glasses for a $1 donation that will go to a charity of their choice.
