GREENEVILLE, Tenn. (WJHL) – Dakota Sams lost his life when he was 21 years old, but one life lost can lead to other lives being saved through organ donation.

Dakota was able to save the lives of five people through tissue and eye donation. According to Tennessee Donors Services, a single tissue donor can improve the lives of up to 75 people and one cornea donor can restore sight to two people.

On Wednesday at the Greene County/Greeneville Technology Center, a portrait of Dakota made entirely out of various seeds and coffee grounds was given to his parents Peggy and Tommy Sams.

Tommy Sams told News Channel 11 that Dakota had a passion for welding and they wanted to honor his legacy, so they created the Dakota Sams Memorial Scholarship Fund to help young welders achieve a dream.
