TUPELO, Miss (WTVA) – There is a new way for high school baseball coaches to be able to communicate with their catchers.
Over the summer the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) passed a new rule allowing a one-way communication between coaches and the catcher.
They are allowed to use any piece of electronic equipment to setup. It does not matter if it’s a walkie talkie setup or if they simply want to use air pods.
“It does feel weird a little bit. But I think it is really good for the game. Especially high school. And I’m really glad we have it now,” says Garrett Enis, Tupelo high school baseball catcher.
Tupelo assistant baseball coach Peyton Cain says it helps “speed up the game” and also helps cleanup mistakes a lot easier.
The catcher is the only player on defense allowed to have this equipment on.
