HOA installs cameras to keep eye on neighborhood – video helps draw up ‘hot list’ of targets but sparks privacy concern

CALIFORNIA HOAs have come under fire for installing cameras to catch criminals in the neighborhood.

Privacy fears in Oakland are mounting after the local government announced that 480 cameras would be installed to combat crime.

On Friday, California Governor Gavin Newsom confirmed the city’s partnership with Flock Safety with hopes that crime rates would slow in the San Francisco Bay.

Since 2020, crime has steadily deflated in all California cities except for Oakland which has seen a massive surge, especially in retail theft.
