HudsonAlpha explores AgriTech industry for the Wiregrass [Video]

DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) – AgriTech is a growing multi-billion dollar industry. This is why HudsonAlpha Wiregrass is exploring how to make the Wiregrass the AgriTech center of the U.S.

AgriTech, or Agriculture Technology, is all about improving efficiency to increase yields and sustainability and reduce costs for farmers.

“AgTech can really be a lot of different things,” Carter Wells, the vice president of economic development for HudsonAlpha, said.

Whether it be drone technology for applying fertilizer or technology for smart irrigation, it’s a growing industry.

An industry that HudsonAlpha believes is perfect for the Wiregrass.

“Once we started to have this conversation with the city of Dothan and the people across the 11 county region here in southeast Alabama, we can see the strength of agriculture, whether it is for peanuts or timber,” Wells said.
