Icy weather calls for caution [Video]

FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) – Warm weather is a wonderful thing we have all been looking forward to, but with the warm weather comes the heed for caution.

According to the Center for Disease Control, up to a million Americans are injured in some way after falling on ice and snow every year. Tragically, around 17,000 of these injuries annually prove fatal.

With temperatures rising above freezing in the day and dipping below freezing in the night, injuries are almost certain to happen. Whether you are driving a vehicle or walking on the sidewalk it is best to take precaution.

Consider putting down sand or gravel on your driveway, and keep a sharp eye out when walking down the sidewalk. Distractions such as texting as you walk could lead to a nasty fall. It’s a good idea to wear boots with good traction, and maybe even ice cleats on your shoes …
