India has once again urged the finalisation of the permanent solution to Public Stockholding (PSH), a matter pending for 11 years, and its inclusion as an outcome in the ongoing negotiations at the Abu Dhabi Ministerial Conference-13 of the WTO. Referring to the mandates on PSH from the WTO’s Bali Ministerial of 2013, the General Council decision of 2014, and the Nairobi Ministerial decision of 2015, India stressed that the focus should encompass more than just the trade interests of exporting nations.
India emphasised that without a permanent solution to PSH, the battle against hunger in developing countries cannot be won.
India’s stance, underscoring concerns regarding food security and livelihoods, has garnered support from 80 countries representing over 61% of the world’s population. This backing includes the G33 group of countries, Africa, the Caribbean and Pacific Group (ACP), and the African Group.
