DES MOINES, Iowa (Gray TV Iowa State Capitol Bureau) – Starting July 1st a law goes into effect in Iowa that makes it a crime for a person to enter the state after being deported from the United States or denied entry. The crime is punishable with up to two years in prison.
Governor Kim Reynolds, a Republican, issued this statement after signing the bill into law:
“The Biden Administration has failed to enforce our nation’s immigration laws, putting the protection and safety of Iowans at risk. Those who come into our country illegally have broken the law, yet Biden refuses to deport them. This bill gives Iowa law enforcement the power to do what he is unwilling to do: enforce immigration laws already on the books.”
