The Pine Bluff Police Department is investigating a fatal shooting incident involving a 24-year-old that happened just after 3:00 a.m. on Monday morning.
PINE BLUFF, Ark. — The Pine Bluff Police Department is investigating a fatal shooting incident that happened just after 3:00 a.m. on Monday morning.
According to police, officers were called with reports of a shooting in the 2700 block of S. Georgia. Once they arrived they found 24-year-old Austen McAfee suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest.
Officials said he was unresponsive and was later pronounced dead while at the scene by deputies with the Jefferson County Coroner.
The victim’s family explained that McAfee allegedly saw someone breaking into his vehicle which was parked in the driveway. He then went outside to confront the burglar and was shot by them as they ran away. McAfee was struck by one of the bullets and later died.
