TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) – With the DEA on track to reclassify marijuana as a less dangerous drug, many in the cannabis industry are calling for more changes.
Demitri Downing is the founder and president of Arizona’s Cannabis Industry Trade Association. He has been a part of the cannabis industry since 2012 and is credited for helping with several key marijuana legislation.
“Liberty, freedom, the choice and the right of the individual to determine when and where and if they want to use this substance,” Downing said. “Until we get the government out of the way, it’s not enough. That is where we need to get the government out of the way.”
Downing said the time is now for Arizona to take the lead and help the industry thrive.
“The goal is to make Arizona a production state, not just a consumption state,” Downing said. “That’s thinking, that’s dollars, that’s economic developments, that’s jobs.”
