MEDFORD, Ore. – Spring break starts Monday for college students, but local bars say they don’t usually see that age group turn out this week.

According to a report from market date provider Gitnux, the average college student will spend $1,080 on a spring break vacation this year. However, even with inflation cut in half compared to last year, people might be traveling less. This could open up a new customer base for bars — staycationers.

“Things are tight right now, and people are having to stretch their dollar further,” Clay Bearnson, the co-owner of Medford’s Gypsy Blues Bar, said. “(People) might want to staycation, and if that’s the case, then we might see an influx of people coming here at night.”

Caregivers looking for activities for their children have the option to sign them up for spring break camps.
