JACKSONVILLE, Ala. (WBRC) – Jacksonville State University is getting money to offer more support when it comes to mental health. The money will help launch the groundbreaking of a Victory Center for military community support.
This $250,000 grant from the Alabama Board of Veterans Affairs will fund the Victory Center that will serve the total military community. Leaders at JSU believe the center will help improve veterans’ overall mental health, support a smooth transition into civilian life, and help families flourish.
Internship opportunities will be provided for students pursuing bachelor’s or master’s degrees in social work or clinical mental health counseling. School officials say they’re focused on making the JSU campus more military-friendly while continuing to look at grant opportunities to bring in more support initiatives to give veterans the help they need.
