Judge grants second chance at bail to Satsuma contractor accused of fraud [Video]

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – A judge on Thursday granted a second chance at bail to a swimming pool contractor accused of defrauding customers.

James Dewayne Gill Jr., 47, of Satsuma, has been locked up since January, when Mobile County District Judge Jennifer Wright determined he had violated his bond conditions by leaving the state without permission.

That came after testimony that Gill had been spotted in December at a casino in Mississippi. In setting bail totaling $356,000, Wright stressed that the defendant must remain in Alabama under electronic monitoring.

“The Defendant is to not leave the State of Alabama for any reason whatsoever, including working or casino visits,” she wrote in her order.

At the time he was in Mississippi, Gill had been given permission to go to Georgia for work. Gill’s lawyer at the time argued that his client was working at the casino and did not intend to break the rules.
