ORANGEBURG, S.C. (WIS/Gray News) – A shooting victim in South Carolina drove himself to the hospital after being shot in the head.

According to the Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office, Leroy Durant was driving home from a program this week at Claflin University when he was shot.

Durant told police he was driving on Belleville Road when he heard a loud noise while passing Mingo Street. He then started to feel lightheaded and dizzy.

Durant said he drove himself to the Medical University of South Carolina when he noticed blood coming from his head.

According to Claflin University, Durant is its vice president for student development and services.

University officials said in a press release Durant was treated for his injuries and was later released from the hospital.

Authorities said the bullet did not pierce Durant’s skull.

Claflin University students said they were shocked to hear of the shooting.
