Kids learn about recycling, caring for the planet at Earth Day event in DeKalb County [Video]

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – Earth Day is on Monday, but kids are getting a head start on what it takes to protect the planet.

Hundreds of families flocked to Columbia Drive in DeKalb County on a picture-perfect Saturday to learn more about Mother Nature. Kids got an interactive look and feel for things like composting and caring for animals.

“We’re always trying to find great things to do,” said Howard Schreiber, who attended with his nephews. “I think recycling is something really important and something that we participate in in our home, so I thought, ‘What better way than to come and take them?’”

The Atlanta-based nonprofit Live Thrive hosts the outdoor event every year.

“Our partners here today are showing what they do for sustainability, what they do as far as recycling and being good earth stewards,” Live Thrive Founder Peggy Whitlow Ratcliffe said.
