WASHINGTON (NEXSTAR) — High-speed rail could get support from Congress in the future. Some lawmakers are pushing to invest billions of dollars to get faster trains to operate in different parts of the country.
Bullet trains and high-speed rail are popular and highly effective modes of transportation throughout Europe and Asia.
“We’re behind the rest of the world by a lot, but we can catch up with this bill,” Rep. Seth Moulton (D-Mass.) said.
Moulton has introduced a bill that would invest more than $200 billion over five years into high-speed rail.
“It’s really a way to rebuild America, to reconnect America,” Moulton said.
The plan would grant a total of $40 billion a year, split between the states and regions that show they could use the money most effectively.
Moulton says his plan would help create more than two million jobs.
